Roasting at home
Why is this coffee Green? A Frequently asked question in our cafe, when one of loyal patrons ,used to receiving a finely crated cup of drip coffee or a pretty little lavender latte, picks up one of our bags of unroasted or "green" coffee. Careful friend! For what you hold in your hand is a gateway to a new obsession. Home roasting is an increasingly popular hobby, and to get started is devilishly simple. Acquire some raw coffee, which we are more than happy to furnish you with from some of the best farms in the world, and then decide how you want to apply heat. Roasting Coffee is essentially cooking the seeds of the coffee plant, a cast iron pan is a good place to start, and in fact it's the way coffee was traditionally roasted in Ethiopia. We are also quite fond of stove top popcorn poppers, so much so that we always keep them in stock. Pop corn poppers are great for roasting on a gas stove, they are light and allow for relative ease of heat adjustments, and designed with a hand crank and paddles to evenly move the popcorn ( and incidentally green coffee). From here the roast is the limit! explore different origins and take a chance on how you can make different attributes shine by making minor adjustments to the flame. But we careful! One day you might find yourself traveling the world looking for the best beans!
